Situé 6, Place des Vosges, dans le 4e arrondissement, l'appartement loué par Victor Hugo en 1832, occupe 280 m2 du premier étage de l'ancien Hotel de Rohan. C'est là qu'il va écrire ses oeuvres majeures : Lucrèce Borgia, Les Burgaves, Ruy Blas, Marie Tudor, une grande partie des Misérables..
Durant son séjour, qui va durer seize ans, il sera élu à l'Académie Française, , nommé Pair de France, puis député de Paris.
La Place des Vosges, appelée "Place Royale" avant 1800, est une des plus anciennes place de Paris. C'est aussi le lieu de résidence de personnalités célèbres comme l'écrivain Colette, Georges Simenon ou l'actrice Annie Girardot.
